Out of warranty PS3…Buy new or repair?

My old 40 gig PS3 is not reading discs and needs to be sent in for service. This will be the second time since I have owned it. Of course, it is out of warranty this time so it is going to cost me $150 to have Sony fix it. So, my question is…Do I just get a new 120 gig for $300 and tinker with the old one? Or do i just send it back in and pay $150 and hope it doesn't happen again?

hi all. my Ps3 has the Yellow light of death and it is such a pain.
apparently the only way i can fix it, is getting it fixed my self or sending back to Sony.
unfortunately they want 140$. And apparently the last time i checked the U.S is in a rescission.
I dont have that kind of money. And my parents wont let me go fix it myself(cause they dont wanna buy a hot gun,…well i never asked..) and so i was wondering if i can get it fixed locally.
i was wondering if Sears can repair it, and how much it would be.

i have 60G Model and its 4 years old.
